Overview of Trans Himalayan Tour

Experience a memorable Trans Himalayan Tour through Nepal, where comfort and adventure come together in one incredible journey. This 14-day trip starts in Kathmandu, a rich and colorful city in terms of culture, history, and tradition. You will get to visit old stupas, crowded markets, and cultural sites in the comfort of a high-end hotel.

Then the Trans Himalayan Tour adventure proceeds with a picturesque flight to Pokhara (822 m / 2,697 ft), a tranquil lakeside city that is endowed with natural beauty. You can rest by the Phewa Lake, see the mountain, and rest in a boutique hotel before moving to more isolated areas.

The Trans Himalayan Tour is enhanced with a journey by a 4×4 Jeep into the Annapurna Conservation Area with Ambition Himalaya Treks. The road will lead you over dynamic landscapes, green hills, and farmland to cliffs of rocks and high mountainous terrain. As you go, you will have a glimpse of some of the well-known Himalayan peaks like Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhauligiri.

The trek is along the Kali Gandaki valley, which is among the deepest in the world, with dramatic scenery and geological formations of rocks. Along the path, there are traditional villages, which provide an understanding of the local life and culture.

One of the greatest attractions of the Trans Himalayan Tour is the visit to Muktinath Temple (3,800 m / 12,467 ft), which is a sacred place of both Hindus and Buddhists. Following this spiritual experience, the trip goes on to Upper Mustang, a remote area with a unique Tibetan touch. It turns into a high desert with a dry and open landscape. You will be visiting Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft), which is an ancient walled city with monasteries, caves, and a traditional way of life. Walking in its small streets is like going back in time.

Comfort is ensured throughout the trip, with well-chosen lodging. In urban areas, you will be staying in good hotels, and in the mountains, there will be good lodges which offer warmth and good food. The Luxury Trans Himalayan Tour adventure is accompanied by an English-speaking guide and a professional driver, so that traveling and gaining valuable cultural knowledge can be made easy and enjoyable.

The trip back to Pokhara has a natural hot spring stop in Tatopani (1,100 m / 3,609 ft) and scenic drives back to Kathmandu via Bandipur. The Trans Himalayan Tour is the most enjoyable blend of culture, landscape, and comfort that leaves unforgettable memories of the Nepalese landscapes and hospitality.

Trip Information

Best Season and Weather

The Trans Himalayan Tour can be taken in the spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) periods when the weather is clear, and the temperatures are comfortable. Spring is warm with flowers blooming, nights are cool, and days are warm. In the autumn, the weather is predictable, the air is fresh, and the mountain views are fantastic.

Central Nepal has a monsoon season (June-August), which is accompanied by heavy rainfall and influences travel. Nevertheless, Upper Mustang is fairly dry as it is a rain-shadow region. The winter (December-February) is colder, particularly in elevated areas, where temperatures fall below the freezing point.

To have a comfortable and picturesque Trans Himalayan Tour, the spring and autumn are the best times to have the most reliable weather and overall experience.

Food & Drink During the Tour

The Trans Himalayan Tour food is fun and provides a variety of local and foreign cuisine. In cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara, one can find meals in good hotels and restaurants with a great variety of choices. The Nepalese cuisine consists of rice, lentil soup, vegetables and curry.

On the Luxury Trans Himalayan Tour, food is served in lodges and it is basic but nutritious. You will regularly consume dal bhat, flatbreads, soups and meat food occasionally. Breakfast consists of eggs, porridge, or bread.

Consume only purified or bottled water and avoid raw foods. Hot beverages such as tea and coffee are popular and will keep you hydrated and energized during the trip.

Altitude Sickness

In the Trans Himalayan Tour, you will be visiting high altitudes, and the highest altitude will be the Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft). Some travelers might experience some mild altitude sickness at this level including headaches or dizziness.

Gradual ascent, giving time to your body to adapt, will help minimize the risks. Take lots of water, light meals, and avoid alcohol. In case of symptoms, report to your guide. In severe cases, rest or descent might be needed.

Ambition Himalaya Treks designs the itinerary in such a way that it helps achieve the right acclimatization. The majority of the travelers finish the Trans Himalayan Tour without struggle by taking a few precautions and by not ignoring their bodies.

Visa and Permits for the Trans Himalayan Tour

In order to participate in the Trans Himalayan Tour, tourists require a valid Nepal tourist visa and special trekking permits. In Kathmandu airport, a majority of visitors can easily obtain a visa with a valid passport and photo at the airport.

The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and the Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit are the permit requirements for the Luxury Himalayan Tour. This is crucial in gaining access to restricted areas. All the permits are organized beforehand by Ambition Himalaya Treks, and therefore, it is a smooth process with no hassles.

Travelers are advised to have passport copies and permits with them during the journey to be checked by the checkpoints. When the paperwork is in order, you will have nothing to worry about but to enjoy the Trans Himalayan Tour.

Health & Safety

Health and safety are important for a comfortable Trans Himalayan Tour. Simple hygiene practices should be followed, and simple medicines should be carried by the travelers. Consume fresh water and freshly cooked food. The climate unpredictable and needs additional protection, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and warm clothing.

In mountainous regions, roads may be rough, but with skilled drivers and well-maintained vehicles, there will be safety during driving. Do not walk alone in the dark in places that you do not know well, and ensure that your personal belongings are locked up during your Luxury Himalayan tour. Emergency evacuation services are also in place in case of emergencies.

Ambition Himalaya Treks is very concerned about safety, and therefore, it is planned well in advance and is accompanied throughout the trip, and you are assured of travelling safely.

Transportation for the Trans Himalayan Tour

The Trans Himalayan Tour is well planned in terms of transportation according to different locations to ensure comfort and safety. The trip will start with a domestic flight, which is short, from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which saves time and gives scenic views.

In cities, local transportation is by private cars or SUVs. In the mountainside, particularly in Mustang and the highest point of Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft), extremely strong 4×4 jeeps are employed to navigate the rugged and unpaved roads.

You have professional drivers and guides with you on the trip. It may take a long time to travel because of mountain conditions, though there are regular stops. Through planning by Ambition Himalaya Treks, transportation is easy and reliable during the Luxury Himalayan tour.

Travel Insurance

The Trans Himalayan Tour will require travel insurance, which should include high altitude travelling above 3,000 m. Medical treatment, emergency evacuation in a helicopter, trip delays, and personal belongings should be covered by your policy. Because this trip takes one to such locations as Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft), decent coverage is highly essential.

Insurance is essential because emergency rescues in remote regions in the Himalayas would be extremely expensive. Keep a copy of your policy and emergency contact information. The 24/7-assistance plan is strongly desired.

Having the correct insurance will allow you to travel without worrying about anything and instead enjoy the Trans Himalayan Tour without any problems.

Your Extra Expenses

Although the majority of the services are paid, there are certain personal costs associated with the Trans Himalayan Tour. Food in cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara is not entirely covered, thus allocate for lunches and dinners. Soft drinks, alcohol, and additional bottled water are additional costs. Guide and driver tips are expected.

Other expenses can be laundry, snacks, internet in lodges and other optional activities such as paragliding. You will also have to cover your visa and travel insurance. Bring sufficient Nepal rupees for daily expenses especially in areas that are remote. You can have a stress-free Trans Himalayan Tour by planning your budget.

Language & Communication

The Trans Himalayan Tour is generally easy to communicate. The primary language is Nepali, although English is spoken in urban areas and by guides. In remote regions, such as Upper Mustang, local people might use languages of Tibet, but simple Nepali and limited English are also known. Your guide will help with translating when necessary.

Mobile connections are good in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but above Lo Manthang (3840 m / 12598 ft), they are not reliable. The internet is found in urban areas but is limited in mountain resorts. Remote areas might also be short of electricity, and it can be beneficial to have a power bank to remain connected when there is an opportunity.

Don’ts on This Trip

In the Trans Himalayan Tour, it is highly valued to respect the local culture. Do not litter and put trash away properly. Take off shoes when entering temples and wear modest clothes in cultural places. Never photograph people or places of worship without permission.

There are stringent laws against drugs in Nepal; therefore, stay away from drugs. Affection should not be openly expressed. Drones are not permitted, and they have to be specially permitted.

Always keep in your guide, particularly in restricted areas such as Upper Mustang and Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft). These are just a few guidelines that will guarantee a nice and easy Luxury Himalayan tour experience.

Trip Extension

After completing the Trans Himalayan Tour, you can explore more of Nepal. Such extensions as a jungle safari in the Chitwan National Park, where you can observe wildlife such as rhinos and elephants, are popular extensions.

Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is also a good place to visit in search of a serene cultural experience. In case you are fond of trekking, you might want to take the Everest or the Annapurna trails. Other tours of the city in Kathmandu Valley or days of relaxation in Pokhara are also excellent.

Ambition Himalaya Treks will assist in making these extensions according to your itinerary so that you can carry on your trip past Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft).

Photography & Drone Rules

The Trans Himalayan Tour has numerous beautiful photography opportunities. There are no restrictions on taking photos of landscapes, villages, and mountains. Nevertheless, never take pictures without seeking permission from the people or monks. It is not possible to take photos inside many temples; therefore, pay attention to the signs.

In Nepal, the use of drones is highly regulated and has to be approved by the government, which is hard to get. The illegal operation of drones can result in fines or seizure. The extreme temperatures in cold weather in high altitude places such as Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft) may quickly drain batteries, carry spares, and ensure that they are kept warm.

By abiding by these rules, a good experience will be enjoyed by all.

Tips for first-time visitors

The Trans Himalayan Tour is a unique and exciting experience for first-time travelers. Bring warm clothes in layers, because the weather is unpredictable, particularly in the high altitudes such as Lo Manthang (3,840 m / 12,598 ft). Carry nice trekking shoes and simple medicines.

Stay healthy, drink lots of water, and wear sunscreen. Always bring Nepali rupees to pay small bills since the cards are not accepted in rural places. There are poor internet and mobile connections in the mountains, and you should be ready to go offline. Be mindful of local culture, greet people with Namaste, and travel leisurely, since weather and road conditions can slow down travel.

Verified It felt like the real nepal
Honestly, i didn’t know much about the tsum valley before starting this trek, and that made the experience even better. the trail felt peaceful, the villages were beautiful, and every day had something different to see. i really enjoyed meeting local nepali people because everyone was so friendly and welcoming. our guide also made a big difference he knew the trail well, helped whenever we were tired, and shared interesting things about local life and culture. it felt more like experiencing real nepal than simply completing a trek. i would happily do this route again.

Verified Amazing guide and very communicative office
I just finished the Annapurna circuit trek with ambition himalaya. Very good experience. My guide, Bharat, was very professional, and yet also funny and an amazing musician! During the trek came a storm that interrupted the trek, and we had to be rescued by helicopter. Both my guide and Shishir (the agency manager), helped a lot, and as soon as we got connection we called the office and they made great efforts to help with the rescue. Shishir is very communicative, and very willing to help. The hotels I were booked before and after the trek were fine, but there many cheap hotels in these areas (the thamel in kathmandu and lakeside in pokharar) so you could also book on your own for more flexibility. Overall It was a very good experience, and the guide took care of everything durring the trek, leaving me mostly with very little to worrie about.

Verified Manaslu circuit trek with Tsum valley, park Chitwan and sightseeing Kathmandu
This was my first trip of this kind. Communication via WhatsApp was fantastic; Shishir answers every question almost immediately :). He can organize and combine various excursions into one—you just have to say what you want. On a day off, he’ll show you what’s worth seeing on a map or arrange a guide and transport. In the event of illness or an accident (which I wouldn't wish on anyone), he’ll take you to a doctor and help with translation. The trek was organized to perfection. I highly recommend the jeep option for a small extra fee—it offers total comfort. Our guide, Ghaman, was very friendly; he looked after us, checked on how we were feeling, shared stories, and adjusted the daily distance to our capabilities. He chose the best spots for overnight stays, offering beautiful views. The guys doing the "heavy lifting"—despite their unassuming appearance—are truly tough as nails 👏💪. Always funny and polite; you can always count on a helping hand :). They adapt to your needs: if you want company, they’ll chat; if you want to be alone, they’ll discreetly step back, yet they always keep a watchful eye on your safety. Tsum offers a chance to discover a different world, with amazing, warm, and open people. The Manaslu Circuit offers a more "modern" feel. Incredible views (though, unfortunately, weather-dependent ;)). It presents altitude-related challenges, but it’s totally doable with a great team. Unforgettable high-altitude moments :). Chitwan offers a completely different atmosphere; the safari lets you see animals up close. Unforgettable moments include walking across the town bridge with a crocodile on the riverbank below :). Don't worry—it's safe. You always choose your meals from the menu yourself. The staff is always very friendly. Nepal is a country of very polite people :). A huge thank you for helping me make my dreams come true—it wouldn't have been possible without you ♥️. My best all-inclusive vacation ever—you took care of everything, and I just had a great time 😊.

Verified The mountains felt much closer than i expected
I still remember the morning we started walking toward abc. the trail was a mix of stone steps, forest, little villages, and plenty of uphill walking, so it was not always easy. my legs were pretty tired by the end of some days, but the views kept making me want to continue. i enjoyed the simple teahouses and talking with other trekkers along the way. reaching ABC early in the morning, with the mountains all around us, was the moment i had been waiting for. it felt peaceful, exciting, and completely worth the effort.

Verified Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Hello! This was my first trek and I couldn't imagine it better. We've got the best team ever ( guide Ghaman and porters Gagan and Man Bahadur ). They were always caring about us, if there was anything you could hit you had heard "mind your head" or "careful careful". They even made a way from rocks when it was hard to cross the river. We were playing card games together (they taught us their game and we taught ours.) Very funny time spent. Man Bahadur and Gagan also had been carrying fruits for us for everyday FOR ALL TREK. They are really strong! Moreover in this beautiful place Tsum Valley with amazing people in guesthouses I could go to the kitchen and prepare Chapatti ( I liked this food and was curious how to make it) and it was possible because our guide arranged it ;) From wonderful Tsum Valley we went straight to Manaslu Circuit Trek. Here was harder but also awesome! Team was always supportive, when we felt bad, they were stopping for us to give us a time we needed. We achieved Base Camp and Larkya La Pass thanks to them. All trip was great planned for what we are thankful for managing director Shishir. After long and hard day there was shorter so we weren't too tired. Although he wasn't with us in mountains, he was asking if everything is fine. I am honestly very satisfied, proud and above all VERY glad. Perfect adventure with perfect people! Thank you so so much!! I can truly recommend. ✯ᴗ✯

Verified Manaslu circuit trek with Tsum Valley, Chitwan and sightseeing Khatmandu.
The trek was demanding and long, but every day was very well planned, so we were not that exhausted and could appreciate the journey. The whole trek lasted 18 days, but after that we also spent 2 days in Chitwan. Our guide for the trek was named Ghaman and we had two porters: Man Bahadur and Gagan. All three where wonderful and very attentive, making sure we get the best available rooms, are eating well and get to see every wild animal they could have spotted. They were always ready to help with more difficult parts of the trek like crossing the river. The views and their company rewarded all the hardships. Our travel agency manager was also very helpful. He helped us with applying for all the necessary permits, made sure we had a proper guides and transportation to all of our destinations. He was also ready to assist us in case of a medical emergency. Journey was 10/10 and thank you Shisir for an unforgettable stay in Nepal.

One thing i will remember from annapurna base camp is how quickly the scenery changes during the trek. we walked through small villages, forests, and plenty of stone steps, with the mountains getting closer each day. some afternoons were tiring and the weather changed quickly, but our guide handled everything calmly. he was helpful with our pace, meals, and small things we needed along the way. the early morning view from base camp was absolutely worth the effort. it was a simple, genuine, and memorable trekking experience.

Verified Never thought my first trek would Be ebc
I never thought my first trek would turn out this good. everest base camp was challenging for me, especially on the longer walking days, but having the ambition himalaya team made a big difference. the guides were friendly, patient and always around when i needed help. shishir was also very nice and personally looked after things. somehow everything went smoothly, and finishing ebc is a memory i will keep for a long time. i’d happily trek with them again.

Verified 45 Days in nepal, and this became my favorite memory
After 45 days of traveling around nepal, this trek was easily one of my favorite experiences. the annapurna views were incredible, but honestly, it was the people and the little moments along the way that i will remember most. everyone we met was so warm and welcoming. i booked with ambition himalaya and everything felt easy and relaxed from the start. our guide was friendly, helpful, and never made us feel rushed. reaching annapurna base camp after days of walking was an unforgettable moment. i was exhausted, but standing there surrounded by those mountains made every step worth it.
