Detail Itinerary - Day to Day Route Description
Drive to Airport and Fly to Paro, Drive to Thimphu
On the first day of our Short Bhutan Tour, we will begin early in Kathmandu with a comfortable transfer to the airport.
Then we will board a scenic flight to paro which is among the most beautiful mountain flights in the world.
When the weather is clear, we will have a chance to see the Mont Everest and other Himalayan mountains from the airplane.
We will meet our local Bhutanese guide after we land at Paro Airport. After the visa formalities are done, we will drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
The road to Thimphu is calm and picturesque, traversing rivers, pine forests, old villages, and farmlands.
We will head to Thimphu and book into our hotel, where we will rest. Providing time, we will be going to the National Memorial Chorten, where people can come together at night to pray.
We can also get a glimpse of the outward courtyard of Tashichho Dzong. Thimphu will be the place of stay overnight. We will stay overnight in Thimphu.
Tour around Thimphu
Today on our Short Bhutan Tour, we will explore the main attractions of Thimphu.
This will be followed by a visit to the spectacular statue of Buddha Dordenma, which is positioned elevated above the valley and has amazing panoramic views.
It is one of the biggest Buddha statues in the world because this location is peaceful. Then, we will come to the National Memorial Chorten, which is a religious site with people walking, spinning prayer wheels, and saying prayers.
In the afternoon, we will visit Tashichho Dzong, a royal residence that is a key fortress that accommodates government offices and the central monastic body.
We will visit its courtyards and get to know the Bhutanese architecture and history. We will also visit a local handicraft center or the farmers’ market, if time allows, to see local products and daily life.
We will see monks and locals putting on traditional dress all through the day. We will spend the evening and enjoy the peaceful environment of Thimphu. We will sleep overnight in Thimphu.
Thimphu – Paro (Drive) and Hike to Tiger’s Nest
We shall part from Thimphu after breakfast and drive back to Paro, and have scenic views along the river valleys. It is a scenery-filled journey that will drive us through beautiful countryside and peaceful villages.
Upon reaching Paro, we will begin the most exciting part of our Short Bhutan Tour, the hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The path starts slowly ascending through pine forests that are lined with prayer flags.
We will also walk at a slow speed, take breaks, and capture photos in between. After arriving at the viewpoint, we will proceed to the monastery itself, which is theatrically located on the cliff.
We are going to visit this holy place and get to know about its spiritual significance. This visit is really special since the surrounding is peaceful and the view of the mountains is awesome.
We will hike back to the valley after spending some time in the monastery. We can also go to Paro Rinpung Dzong or Kyichu Lhakhang later (when we have time).
We will have dinner and sleep in Paro in the evening. We will stay overnight in Paro.
Paro – Depart to Airport and Arrival in Kathmandu
Today marks the final day of our Short Bhutan Tour. We will pack and be ready to leave early after breakfast.
We will then drive to Paro International Airport and part ways with our Bhutanese guide and driver, who will send us off and wish us good luck in a traditional manner. Our flight will then be to Kathmandu.
During the flight, we will get the last glimpses of the green valleys, rivers, and mountains in Bhutan.
The Himalayan peaks may be spotted again in the flight on a clear day. This slow ride helps us to take time and recount the beautiful experiences of the last four days.

Trip Information
Weather and Best Season
For our Short Bhutan Tour, Bhutan can be visited throughout the year, but some seasons are more comfortable than others. Spring, between March and May, and autumn, between September and November is the ideal time in a 4 days Bhutan tour.
These months are usually mild in nature, the skies are clearer, and the conditions under which one travels are not inconvenient. The season of spring is good; flowers are blooming, and it is warm during the day, hence sightseeing is good.
Autumn is characterized by dry air and good visibility, which will be useful during walking tours and outdoor visits. December through February are sunny and dry in the day, but mornings and nights are cold, particularly in Paro and Thimphu.
There is not much snowfall in the valleys, and so travelling is possible. There are fewer visitors during winter, and this makes sightseeing peaceful and serene.
The monsoon season is summer between June and August. There is heavy rainfall with the afternoons being the most frequent, and the whole day is not normally rainy. Valleys are green and fresh, and every day life goes on as usual.
Delays can be slight because of the weather during flights. For our Short Bhutan Tour, we recommend spring and autumn for the most comfortable experience, but every season has its own charm if you are prepared.
Food & Drink During the Tour
During our Short Bhutan Tour, all meals are included, so guests can enjoy local food without worry. The food of Bhutan usually consists of chilies, cheese, rice, vegetables, and basic meat preparations.
Chilies and cheese are combined to create the national dish, ema datshi, although we can serve milder options to those guests who are not fond of spice. Dinners tend to be composed of rice, vegetables, soup, and side dishes in an uncomplicated and satisfying manner.
The availability of vegetarian food is very high because a considerable number of Bhutanese eat vegetarian foods on religious days. In Ambition Himalaya Treks, we take special care to make hotels and restaurants aware of the dietary requirements in advance, e.g., vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free meals.
Food is normally eaten in hotels or clean local restaurants, which are common in serving tourists. Hotels serve tea and coffee, and bottled drinking water is available during transit.
Visitors should not drink tap water and instead drink bottled or boiled water. There is availability of soft drinks and alcohol, like the local beer, which guests may buy should they want to. The 4 days Bhutan tour is basic, cozy, and nutritious, which is appropriate for traveling within a moderate elevation.
Altitude Sickness
On our Short Bhutan Tour, altitude levels are moderate and safe for most travelers. Paro is approximately 2,200 meters above sea level, and Thimphu is approximately 2,300 meters.
These elevations can be a little bit different from lower places, yet severe altitude issues are very rare. The highest point during the 4 days Bhutan tour is Tiger’s Nest Monastery at about 3,120 meters, reached only for a short time during the hike.
The majority of the travelers are only comfortable with slight shortness of breath when walking up hills. We will schedule light activities on the first day to make sure that the adjustment takes place, and we will take sufficient time to rest. On the first day, we advise that you take lots of water, walk slowly, and avoid alcohol. Adequate sleep also assists in the natural adjustment of the body.
Our guides are trained to monitor guests and intervene in case somebody is not well. In case such symptoms as a headache or dizziness occur, the problem is typically addressed by rest and hydration.
Special altitude medicine is not a regular requirement of these altitudes. The Short Bhutan Tour is suitable for healthy travelers of all ages who follow simple guidance and listen to their bodies.
Visa and Permits for the Tour
A visa is required to get into Bhutan by all foreigners except the citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives. When you book your Short Bhutan Tour with Ambition Himalaya Treks, we takefull responsibility for arranging your Bhutan visa and permits. All you have to do is provide us with a clear copy of your passport with a minimum of six months’ validity and fill out a simple form that we will give you.
After documentations are submitted, the Bhutan associates clear the visa and do so using official authorities. The sustainable development fee and visa fee are already included in the 4 days Bhutan tour package. We will email you the visa clearance letter before you leave. When registering your flight and arrival in Paro, you will have to bring a printed or digital version of it.
Upon arrival, the visa is processed into your passport at the airport. All the necessary travel permits are also arranged within Bhutan. We will be accompanied by a guide to pass the documents at the checkpoints during the transitions between regions. The guests are not required to be concerned about paperwork at all. We manage the process carefully so you can focus fully on enjoying your Short Bhutan Tour.
Health & Safety
Bhutan is a very safe country, and traveling on our Short Bhutan Tour is comfortable and secure. The level of crime is very low, and the local citizens are polite and hospitable. It is typically safe to walk about in Thimphu or Paro in the evening. Just like in any of our journeys, we will recommend some basic precautions, like ensuring that you keep your valuable items locked up, and to do as your guide tells you.
The common health problems can be managed in the healthcare facilities of Paro and Thimphu. No special vaccinations are needed in Bhutan, though regular immunizations must be up to date. Food eaten in the tourist hotels is clean and well prepared. They serve bottled water, and the guests are not supposed to drink tap water.
We suggest the basic personal medicine that includes pain relievers, stomach medicine, and motion sickness pills. We have a first aid kit in the hands of our guides. Medical care and emergency services are highly recommended with travel insurance. All in all, health and safety issues during a 4 days Bhutan tour are minimal with basic precautions taken into consideration.
Transportation
Transportation during our Short Bhutan Tour is fully organized for comfort and ease. Bhutan has national airlines that include flights between Kathmandu and Paro. We make all flight reservations and timeline arrangements. When you arrive in Bhutan, you will be driven to the destination in a personal vehicle guided by a local who is familiar with the places.
The vehicles utilized are clean, comfortable, and fit for use in the mountain roads. The distance between driving is not long, and the roads are properly maintained, but twisty. The distance between Paro and Thimphu normally takes one to one and a half hours. We allow stops for photos, rest, or short walks whenever safe.
Personal transport provides flexibility and time-saving during 4 days Bhutan tour. Public transport and taxis are not required. All of them include airport transfers, sightseeing drives, and hotel transfers. Transportation is also easy, secure, and controlled by our crew between arrival and departure, allowing the guests to have a relaxing time during the 4 days Bhutan tour.
Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend travel insurance for all guests joining our Short Bhutan Tour. Also, even though Bhutan is safe and the travel plans are well structured, insurance offers security in case of unforeseen events. This can be medical care, a postponement of the trip, or an emergency evacuation in case it is necessary.
Medical care, emergency transport, and trip interruption should also be covered by insurance. It should also cover to the minimum of 3200 meters to include the Tiger Nest hike in the 4 days Bhutan tour. The tour package does not cover insurance and therefore should be secured in your country before travelling.
Visitors are supposed to bring their insurance information and emergency contact numbers. Our team will assist in coordinating with local clinics or insurance providers in case help is required. Insurance guarantees calmness and will enable the guests to have a good tour with ease and comfort.
Your Extra Expenses
The Short Bhutan Tour package covers most travel costs, but guests should plan a small budget for personal expenses. These are beverages like soft drinks, alcohol, or snack items that are not part of the meals. Personal purchases include souvenirs like textiles, handicrafts, and little gifts.
Guides and drivers do not receive tips, but they are optional. Tipping is welcome but not mandatory in case guests are satisfied with the service. Other services like laundry services, making of personal phone calls, and additional services like hot stone baths are also additional costs.
Cash is a common payment method in Bhutan, and it is always handy to carry local currency or foreign currency. There are ATMs in Paro and Thimphu, but they are not always reliable. Transportation costs do not tend to be high during the 4 days Bhutan tour as all the necessities are covered.
Language & Communication
Bhutan has a large English speaking population, particularly in the tourism industry. During our Short Bhutan Tour, communication will be smooth with guides, drivers, hotel staff, and restaurant teams. The national language is Dzongkha, which is not commonly known by guests, in order to travel comfortably.
Wi Fi is available in most of the hotels, but the speed might be slow. Messaging and general browsing do not require more than the internet. The guide can assist guests in buying a local SIM card, which will enable them to have unlimited access. There is good mobile coverage in Paro and Thimphu.
Hotels can make international calls or use internet applications. The time difference must be factored in when making contact with home. All in all, communication throughout the 4 days tour in Bhutan is not difficult, and you do not feel isolated.
Don’ts on This Trip
The Bhutanese culture appreciates respect and humble conduct. During the Short Bhutan Tour, guests should dress modestly when visiting temples and remove shoes before entering religious sites. Making pictures in prayer halls is prohibited, and visitors are expected to obey the instructions of the guides.
Smoking is also limited and can only be done in private places. There should be no open expression of love. Negative talk against the royal family is disrespectful. Cleanliness and nature are an important part of Bhutan, and littering is highly discouraged.
Polite behavior is anticipated when making purchases. Negotiating is restricted and it must be done with decency. Through these few tips, the visitor is respectful and can have a good experience in the 4 days Bhutan tour.
Trip Extension
Travellers who wish to extend their Short Bhutan Tour have many wonderful options to explore more of this peaceful Himalayan kingdom. Although the 4 days Bhutan tour is a journey of exploring the Bhutan highlights in Paro and Thimphu, adding some more days will enable the traveler to see the peaceful valleys, the exciting cultural life, and the transforming scenery.
The common extension destinations are Punakha, which boasts of beautiful rivers and the beautiful Punakha Dzong, and Phobjikha Valley, a large glacial valley with natural beauty and the presence of the black-necked cranes during winter. The traditional villages, old temples, and fewer crowds are available in Central Bhutan, as well.
This Short Bhutan Tour can also be easily combined with Nepal, as travel begins and ends in Kathmandu. You can add cultural sightseeing, mini Himalayan western walks, jungle safaris or heritage tours in Nepal. The trip extensions will be customized depending on the individual’s interests, time, and speed of travel.
It is better to plan the extensions in advance because Bhutan needs permits and flight arrangements. An extended period of stay enables tourists to acquire a better insight into Bhutanese culture, nature, and day-to-day living. The 4 days Bhutan tour will be extended to a more relaxed and meaningful Himalayan trip.
Photography & Drone Rules
Photography is generally welcome during the Short Bhutan Tour, especially in outdoor areas such as villages, landscapes, and viewpoints. Nonetheless, the visitors are advised to conduct themselves in a respectful manner at all times.
Before taking photos of the local people, particularly the monks, old people, and children, it is good to seek their consent. It is typically not accepted to take photos within temples, monasteries, and prayer halls because they are spiritual places. Your guide will make it clear to you where to avoid keeping cameras and mobile phones.
The use of drones in Bhutan is extremely limited and requires special permission from the government, which is not often issued to tourists. This is why it is strongly recommended that guests should not carry drones on their 4 days Bhutan tour. A good quality camera with smart phones will never be short of capturing the beauty of Bhutan.
Outdoor public spaces permit tripods, provided they do not constitute a barrier to the footpaths or cause inconvenience to other individuals. Respecting photography rules helps maintain Bhutan’s cultural values and ensures a smooth and enjoyable Short Bhutan Tour for everyone.
Tips for First-Time Visitors
For first-time travelers joining a Short Bhutan Tour, a little preparation goes a long way. Carrying layered clothes is highly essential, because climatic conditions may vary during the day and more so in mountain regions.
Wearable shoes are a necessity as sightseeing usually requires walking on irregular paths and soft walks. Sun protection, rain jackets, and warm layers are also to be used depending on the season.
In Bhutan, respect for local customs is held in high regard. Wearing a modest dress, talking nicely, and listening to your guide to get advice will contribute to building good communication.
It is also good to carry around some local currency to make small purchases, as not all places have card facilities. Proper hydration and walking slowly are also a part of being comfortable and able to adjust to altitude.
Bhutan also has a peaceful and slow living style, meaning that patience and a light attitude contribute a lot to the experience. Question and answer, listening to your guide, and observing day to day life give the journey depth. The 4 days Bhutan tour is not only a sightseeing tour, but also it is a tour to learn a calm and conscious lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Question
It is a fairly challenging uphill hiking adventure of between 4 and 5 hours round trip. The route is in good condition, and average individuals can finish without any rest stops. You will have a guide with an easy pace.
Yes, this 4 days tour of Bhutan itinerary is not difficult and can be included in the kids and geriatric group. Other than the Tiger Nest trek (a slow or half walk can also be done with the Pony), the tour will be at an easy pace of drives and walks, with the flexibility of age to accommodate everyone.
Absolutely. When you book this Short Bhutan tour, we can adjust the itinerary or add extra days in Bhutan (for example, visiting Punakha) if you want a longer trip. This Bhutan tour can also be included as part of other traveling plans like a Nepal tour, before or after.
Cozy 3-star equivalent hotels (approved by the government for tourists). There is cleanliness, twin or double beds, an attached bathroom with hot showers, and most likely Wi-Fi. These are typical hotels that are warm and natural. In case you wish to stay in luxury four or five-star hotels, we will upgrade at an additional fee.
Yes. The majority of hotels have Wi-Fi (however, it is slow). Paro and Thimphu have good coverage of mobile phones. It is also possible to obtain a local SIM card to have cheap data and calls. You will have access to the family, but the internet will be slower than it is at home.
Bring some cash. The currency of Bhutan is the Nu (NG). In Paro/Thimphu (when your card works) you can exchange US dollars or draw Nu out of the ATMs. Very few large hotels or stores accept credit cards and so you will use cash as your primary expense.
Tipping is not compulsory but a good gesture to good service. A lot of tourists give tips to the guide and driver at the conclusion of the tour. As a case in point, a group can contribute around 10 dollars a day to the guide and 5 a day to the driver (combined). And the quantity is at your own choice.
Any foreign tourist to Bhutan must accompany a licensed guide and a pre-arranged tour guide vehicle. Bhutanese regulations do not permit independent travelling without a guide. With that said, evenings will be free to explore towns independently but all big-time sightseeing and transfers are guided.
Yes. Bhutan is among the most secure. There is almost no crime, and the locals are quite honest and friendly. You may walk around Paro or Thimphu during the night without much worry. The whole point is to just use regular common sense (such as not leaving your watch in your car), and you will be alright.
It is necessary to have a valid passport (at least 6 months of its validity). We do the Bhutan visa beforehand and will forward you a visa confirmation letter. You will be required to display that letter (printed or in your phone) when you are checking in to the flight to Paro and on arrival at immigration.
Carry a layered outfit in case it is hot during the day and cold during the night (t-shirt, a sweater, a jacket). Tiger Nest should have comfortable walking shoes. Bring a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and personal medication, too. Bring a small pack, as it is just a 4-day tour.
Yes. You will be accompanied by locals in temples, markets and other destinations. The Bhutanese people are hospitable (but usually timid). Attempt to pronounce kuzuzangpo la (hello) it generally gains a smile. Your guide will assist in the introduction. On your brief visit to Bhutan, many tourists find themselves chatting with monks, artisans or villagers.
Only provided that your traveling date coincides with a festival. Paro (or Thimphu) has its main festivals (Tschechus), which occur on particular dates (usually on the spring or fall). We will cover a visit to it in case your tour coincides with it. Otherwise, you will not attend a big festival during this 4-day tour (although you will still get a lot of local culture in the life routine).
Bhutan does not need any special vaccines. Only make sure that you have your regular inoculations (such as tetanus, hepatitis A) current. Bhutan has low-risk diseases. Just in case you have travel insurance covers medical care. And be sure to carry along any personal drugs you may require.
Tobacco has been tightly regulated in Bhutan. Tourists are allowed to carry a small quantity (not more than 200 cigarettes) which they can consume personally but they are required to declare it and pay duty (tax). Smoking is not allowed in social areas. When you have to smoke, you should just do it in closed doors or special areas and be highly discreet.
Yes. Vegetarian cuisine is simple to organize, and other diets (vegan, gluten-free, and so on) can also be provided upon request. Bhutanese food contains a wide range of vegetables. All you need to do is tell us what you need and we will make sure that you receive appropriate meals during the tour.
During high tourist seasons (Mar-May and Sep- Nov), reserve 2-3 months in advance, since flights and hotels are occupied. During the off months, a 4-6 week reservation is normally sufficient. Generally, it is always best to book your preferred dates in advance.
Absolutely. Bhutan can be summarized as extremely photogenic, and that includes grand mountainous landscapes, colorful prayer flags, and individuals in colorful traditional attire. You would also get inexhaustible photographic possibilities. Note: photographs in temples/shrine rooms are prohibited, and the use of drones is also not permitted without special permission from the government.
Not from the ground. You’ll see beautiful mountains in Bhutan, but not Mt. Everest (it’s too far away). However, on the flight to/from Paro (if flying via Kathmandu), you can often see Everest and other high Himalayan peaks from the plane window on a clear day.
Handmade crafts are the best souvenirs. Great items include handwoven textiles (scarves, table runners, traditional clothing), thangka paintings, carved wooden masks, prayer flags, and sets of Bhutanese postage stamps. You can also find local products like organic honey, tea, or incense. Our guide will point you to authentic shops for quality goods.

We had a super easy time communicating with Shishir and he was amazing in helping us set an itinerary that worked for us. Ghaman (our guide) and Mohan (porter) were friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. We were unable to hike our original route due to some non-altitude related health issues and they adjusted the plan so we could still make the most of our time. We also got sick at the end of the trek and had to change our flights home and Shishir was super accommodating and helpful while we navigated that. 1000% would recommend them. chiara fVerified Beautiful 3 days experience A wonderful experience! We did a three-day trek, passing through the villages of Ghorepani, Tadapani, and Gandruk. We saw the sunrise from Poon Hill and from Tadapani itself. We really enjoyed the refreshment stops along the way, where we always found great hospitality and delicious meals. We loved the accommodation in Ghorepani, which had a beautiful common room surrounded by mountains, served good food, and had a lovely, convivial atmosphere. All of this was organized by Shishir with great professionalism: communicating with him before departure was quick and easy; we had no problems at all; he guided us with expertise, cheerfulness, and discretion at the same time. SooVerified Enchanting Australian Base Camp, Dhampus and Sarangkot trek I recently went on a 3 day trek in Nepal in December 2025. We started from Kande village, trekked to Australian Base Camp then to Dhampus village and finally to Sarangkot village which overlooks Pokhara city.My guide was Shishir who is also the owner of the trekking company.Even though the trek was shorter and easier than the other popular treks like EBC and ABC treks, this short trek packed value for money. Along much of the trail we witnessed the astounding and breathtaking vistas of the mighty Annapurna range. We also trekked through pristine and beautiful villages and got to experience firsthand the diverse cultural heritage.Shishir notwithstanding being the owner of the trekking company was also a very experienced guide. He led me to explore a new, hardly trodden path from Dhampus to Sarangkot that maximized the view of the Annapurna range. This was the third straight year I had employed the services of this company. I had done the EBC trek in 2023 and the ABC trek in 2024.Shishir and his staff provided excellent and thoughtful service and you’re guaranteed to be well taken care of from the moment you arrive in Kathmandu till the time you depart from this magical country. eduardo bVerified Manaslu Trek Excellent experience!
