Overview of Kathmandu Chitwan Poon Hill Tour – 12 days
Kathmandu Chitwan Poon Hill tour is a complete tour cum trek plan rolled into the same deal. You will traverse through Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara – three ace tourist cities of Nepal. There is an added incentive of a grueling but memorable hike/trek to the Poon hilltop.
This unique tour starts from three primeval cities of the Kathmandu Valley tour- namely Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. You will take a history tour of old monuments, elaborate palaces, and prehistoric temples while on this plan.
The three durbar squares at the sister cities of Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kantipur (the old name for Kathmandu) are top UNESCO world heritage sites. Likewise, visits to Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath, and Swoyambhunath Stupa are a holy experience for the ages.
The second phase will commence at Chitwan National Park (CNP), located in the Chitwan district which is directly south of the capital city.
The park houses celebrated one-horned rhinoceros, the feared royal Bengal tiger, near-extinct gharial, spotted leopard, wild boar, Asiatic rock python, multiple deer varieties, at least two bear species, and a plethora of other animals on the brink of extinction elsewhere.
A rustic boating experience in the calm Rapti river followed by a wild jungle safari inside the protected national park is something you will cherish for ages. The near-forgotten dance of the indigenous Tharu people is another memorable affair.
Our final foray includes trekking to alluring Poon Hill (3,210 m). We will board a tourist coach to Pokhara – the city of lakes – from Chitwan. A short but sweet drive to Nayapul from Pokhara will come before actual trekking.
Poon Hill is well known for its engrossing sunrise and sunset views over gigantic Himalayan peaks. You will see more than twelve big and small peaks including three peaks over 8,000 m in height – Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), and Annapurna 1 (8,091 m). Witnessing firsthand the rich flora-fauna variety of the Annapurna Sanctuary is worth a million tons of rich memory.

Patan has the Golden Temple, The Krishna Temple, The Bhimsen Temple, Batuk Bhairav Temple, and the Bangalamukhi Temple near Durbar Square. Bhaktapur has the Nyatapola Temple, the 55 windowed Palace, and the Dattatreya Temple Pottery square. and the beautiful pond named Siddha Pokhari near Durbar square.
Day 04: Drive to Chitwan National Park , by tourist bus. 5-6 hours of drive
After early morning breakfast, you will drive to Chitwan in a tourist bus. The journey takes about six hours. Chitwan is a paradise. It is home to the Chitwan national park – one of the model national parks in the world. This national park has won many international accolades for its effort in conserving the royal Bengal tiger and the one-horned rhinoceros.
Today, while you arrive at the final stop, our representative will pick you up and drive you to the hotel. Following lunch and a rest for a few hours, you will start a village walk. In this plan, you will visit the Tharu village museum and view the sunset park on the Rapti river.
Evening back to the hotel and Dinner. After dinner, we will show you a cultural Tharu dance and Music show. A good night’s sleep at your hotel.
Day 05: Full day Wildlife activities in Chitwan National Park.
Today you will enjoy a jungle excursion and other wildlife activities in Chitwan national park. You will also canoe in the river. Jungle safari is the highlight of today’s activities.
There are four options for jungle safari – walking inside the park with a licensed guide, safari on an elephant’s back, jeep safari, and boat safari. We recommend elephant safari for first-time travelers. Enjoy watching animals in their natural habitat.
While canoeing in the Rapti river for 30-40 minutes you will be able to see crocodiles, Gharials, many kinds of birds, etc.
You will take a jungle walk after canoeing and see many animals and birds in their natural habitat. Then this walk ends at the Elephant Breeding Center where you might gain knowledge about elephant history. The most beautiful thing about this place is that you can see baby elephants and play with them.
You will have the main safari (Elephant back Safari starts at about 3 pm and is about 2-3 hours in total). See wild animals including rhinoceros, wild boars, deers, luckily tigers and peacocks, etc.
Day 06: Morning activities and drive to Pokhara by tourist bus.
This early morning you will have a birdwatching plan. Then you will have breakfast and board a bus to Pokhara. The drive takes about five hours. You will follow the Gandaki river (Narayani) up to the place named Mugling.
The road to Kathmandu and Pokhara diverges from Mugling. The road to Pokhara passes past the Marsyangdi, Seti and the Bijaypur rivers. Pokhara is a city of Lakes. The remaining time of the day is free and at your disposal. Overnight at the hotel.

The path starts to go steeply up from here. You will follow the course of the Modi river during the trek. You will have lunch at Tikhedhunga, which lies at the bottom of Ulleri. We will then begin a one and half hour trek to Ulleri. This is a beautiful village up on a Hill from where you can see beautiful mountains. Overnight at lodge.
Day 08: Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,853m/ 9,360 ft), 4-5 hours of walk.
You will start your journey from Ghorepani early in the morning after breakfast. It takes about 4-5 hours to walk through dense Rhododendron forests for most of today’s trek. We will encounter a beautiful village called Banthati. As we continue our trek we will reach a village called Nangethanti.
Finally, you will reach Ghorepani after lunchtime. This village already welcomes you with some panoramic Mountain views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, etc. Overnight at lodge.
Day 09: Poon Hill hike (3,210 m) 2 hours and trek to Tadapani (2,630 m/ 8,628 ft), 6-7 hours of walk.
You will wake up very early at 5 am and head for Poon Hill. You need to reach Poon Hill before sunrise. The view of the sun rising over tall snow-clad mountains is heavenly from Poon Hill.
Mountains on view include Dhaulagiri (8167 M), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, Tukuche, and others.
You will spend a wonderful morning in Poon Hill and return back to our homestay. We will start trekking to Tadapani after breakfast. It takes about 4- hours uphill and downhill and again uphill to Tadapani. This villa is tiny but beautiful in the middle of the Rhododendron forest.
Day 10: Tadapani to Kimche Via Ghandrukand drive to Pokhara (823 m),4-5 hours of walk and 2 hours drive
We have a long day of the trek ahead. Normally the trek is broken down into two days – Tadapani to Ghandruk and Ghandruk to Kimche. However, we will cover the trek in a single day. We will not have much difficulty in doing so because we will be walking downhill today.
Ghandruk village is a large settlement of the Gurung people. The village is a vital recruitment center for the famous Gorkha Soldiers. Ghandruk is also famous for its Annapurna views. You will continue to walk to Kimche and have lunch. Take a vehicle drive to Pokhara for about 2 hours. Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara.
Day 11: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,300 m/4,264 ft), 6-7 hours.
You will drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara in a tourist bus. It takes about 6-7 hours. You will enjoy the beautiful hills and rivers along the way.
You also have the option of traveling by air. The time taken is much shorter – only 30 minutes – and you get a wonderful opportunity to view the mountain from up above. But you have to pay extra for the flight. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu
Day 12: Departure from Kathmandu.
Today is the day of your departure. We will bid you goodbye with a small traditional Nepali farewell ceremony. Our staff will drop you at the airport, from where you will head back to your home or next destinations. Or if you have more days you might have other options to do in Nepal.

David ExpositoVerified Wonderful!! Of the best experiences I've ever had, from the first moment. Bhakta and Hari, the porter and guide respectively, of the best. Super nice, friendly, attentive people, who are continually watching you feel good. You feel tucked in at all times. Trekking is beautiful. The views, the people, the villages. You need to live it to feel it.I will definitely do another one of the trekkings to base camp with them. Freedom57809069101Verified 1000% would recommend My husband and I travelled with Ambition Himalaya in 2025. We had a super easy time communicating with Shishir and he was amazing in helping us set an itinerary that worked for us. Ghaman (our guide) and Mohan (porter) were friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful. We were unable to hike our original route due to some non-altitude related health issues and they adjusted the plan so we could still make the most of our time. We also got sick at the end of the trek and had to change our flights home and Shishir was super accommodating and helpful while we navigated that. 1000% would recommend them. chiara fVerified Beautiful 3 days experience A wonderful experience! We did a three-day trek, passing through the villages of Ghorepani, Tadapani, and Gandruk. We saw the sunrise from Poon Hill and from Tadapani itself. We really enjoyed the refreshment stops along the way, where we always found great hospitality and delicious meals. We loved the accommodation in Ghorepani, which had a beautiful common room surrounded by mountains, served good food, and had a lovely, convivial atmosphere. All of this was organized by Shishir with great professionalism: communicating with him before departure was quick and easy; we had no problems at all; he guided us with expertise, cheerfulness, and discretion at the same time. Thank you, and see you soon! Travelling in Nepal with Shishir from Ambition Himalaya to enjoy and learn about their culture is a luxury and a privilege. It’s the third year in a row that we go to November to see the snowy Himalayas and we plan to come back in the next year 2026 with it too. Explore10590520561Verified Wonderful experience Everything went well during the trek, it was well organized by the guide. Very friendly and attentive to us. The lodges comfortable, comfortable and the food very rich.I recommend the experience with this company that takes care of everything in the organization. I would certainly repeat with them. DaanVerified Thanks Ambition Himalaya - Great trip, excellent guide, perfect weather, what more to expect! We booked the Everest View trek at Ambition Himalaya, a beautiful hike with the highlight of the view from the Everest View Hotel. The trip was excellently arranged by Ambition Himalaya, with good information in advance.Special thanks to our guide, Ganesh, who was tremendously helpful, and made the trip even easier, cozier and more beautiful! I would definitely recommend booking with Ambition Himalaya.Due to delayed flights in the days prior to our flight to Lukla unfortunately had one day delay. The arrangements that this entailed were picked up by our guide from Ambition Himalaya, including arranging an affordable overnight stay. SooVerified Enchanting Australian Base Camp, Dhampus and Sarangkot trek I recently went on a 3 day trek in Nepal in December 2025. We started from Kande village, trekked to Australian Base Camp then to Dhampus village and finally to Sarangkot village which overlooks Pokhara city.My guide was Shishir who is also the owner of the trekking company.Even though the trek was shorter and easier than the other popular treks like EBC and ABC treks, this short trek packed value for money. Along much of the trail we witnessed the astounding and breathtaking vistas of the mighty Annapurna range. We also trekked through pristine and beautiful villages and got to experience firsthand the diverse cultural heritage.Shishir notwithstanding being the owner of the trekking company was also a very experienced guide. He led me to explore a new, hardly trodden path from Dhampus to Sarangkot that maximized the view of the Annapurna range. This was the third straight year I had employed the services of this company. I had done the EBC trek in 2023 and the ABC trek in 2024.Shishir and his staff provided excellent and thoughtful service and you’re guaranteed to be well taken care of from the moment you arrive in Kathmandu till the time you depart from this magical country. eduardo bVerified Manaslu Trek Excellent experience! Communication with Shishir, the owner, was smooth and quick. The trek was great value for money. We were accompanied by Ghaman (guide) and Ghagam (porter). They were both professional and friendly, taking care of us throughout the entire trip. Highly recommended! Romina RVerified Gokyo-Ri Trekking Our 10-day trek to Gokyo Ri was an amazing experience from beginning to end. Everything was very good organized. Our guide was really thoughtful, attentive, and always willing to adapt to what we wanted. We felt safe and we enjoyed the time a lot.Every day was sunny, clear and beautiful, and the views of the Himalayas mountains were absolutely stunning. From the moment we arrived, everything was taken care of. We were given warm sleeping bags and jackets, and we also got help with exchanging money and organziing a Nepali SIM cardAt the end we received a T-shirt and a scarf on our departure day. This was lovely. We can wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone who loves trekking. It was an unforgettable memory.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
